For the first time in the Undergraduate Students Association Council’s history, Bruins have elected an international student as president.

Out of 31,403 eligible voters, 5,262 voted in this year’s USAC election – totaling 16.76% of the student body. The election saw a 6.27% turnout decrease from last year.

The 2024 USAC election included 40 candidates running for 15 positions across the council, along with an advisory vote on the Establishing Meaningful Bruin Resources, Activities, Community & Experiences referendum after graduate students failed to pass it. The advisory referendum failed to pass with 51.7% votes against.

Elections for each office were conducted in a ranked choice voting format through MyUCLA.

Adam Tfayli, the current international student representative and a second-year human biology and society student, emerged victorious in the presidential race from a field of six candidates. Tfayli, who is from Deir el Zahrani, Lebanon, will be the first international student to lead USAC.
