Two candidates for Undergraduate Students Association Council Financial Supports commissioner attended the final USAC 2023-2024 candidate debate Thursday.

The Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted two sets of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. Two candidates are running for the position of Financial Supports commissioner.

Sara Broukhim, a third-year cognitive science and political science student and the current Financial Supports commissioner, said she was running for reelection because she feels there is still work to do to create a more accessible, transparent and student-driven USAC.

“My office has worked tirelessly for the student body and delivered on our campaign promises, including delivering a New York Times (subscription), obtaining parking grants for commuter students and obtaining discounts in Westwood for our student body,” Broukhim said.

Alex Marthan, a second-year mathematics of computation student who is part of the United Bruin Movement slate, said he hopes to enhance financial literacy at UCLA through workshops, consultations and counseling. He added that he also hopes to streamline the financial aid process to reduce stress and work to expand scholarship opportunities.

Marthan also said he wants to increase funding for organizations that serve students with low incomes.

“For people who are in financial aid, I would like to streamline the financial aid process, working to shorten response times, and also translating forms to cover these students from all backgrounds,” he said.

Students can vote in the election on MyUCLA starting May 5 at 12 p.m. and ending May 12 at 2 p.m.
