UCPD is searching for a suspect reportedly involved in an on-campus attempted robbery Wednesday afternoon.

The attempted strong-arm robbery took place in the 500 block of Portola Plaza around 5 p.m., according to a Thursday afternoon UCPD crime alert.

The victim reportedly confronted the suspect after witnessing them cut her scooter’s cable lock and take it from the rack. The victim confronted the suspect, who then eventually let go of the scooter and fled southbound into the Court of Sciences.

The UCPD crime alert described the suspect as a Black man in his mid-20s, around 6 feet, 2 inches. He was reportedly seen wearing a tan sweatsuit with the letters “UCLA” written on the back. The suspect also wore a black backpack with “UCLA” written on it and large bolt cutters sticking out of it.

The victim is a UCLA student, according to the alert.

No injuries or vehicles were reported as related to the incident.

This case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information can call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
