Staff welcome guests to the “Moment of Reflection” exhibition and give attendees blue felt sacks.
Chancellor Gene Block gives a speech before the exhibition starts.
“We’ve been doing some celebrating that we are all back together, but we needed a time to also come together and reflect,” Block said in an interview afterward.
“Moment in Reflection” features moving images of nature. The installation was created by Refik Anadol, a UCLA alumnus, and was created in partnership with UCLA’s School of the Arts and Architecture.
Anadol presents to those in attendance at the exhibition. Anadol said the exhibition is one of the most grateful times of his life.
“Almost a decade ago in this garden, I was dreaming about, ‘One day AI and data can become a sculpture,’” Anadol said.
Anadol added that he is thankful to members of his team, half of whom are also Bruins.
Anadol and his team, who helped design, develop and coordinate the installation, gather in front of the screen.
Exhibition attendees hold up an orb that Anadol asked the guests to reveal from the blue sack they were given at the start of the event. He asked attendees to simultaneously lift the orb in the air as a way to share a connection.
Block and Anadol converse during the exhibition.
Anadol’s art installation features moving images.
The closing screen of the exhibition includes the title, “Moment of Reflection.”
