UCPD investigates hot prowl burglary at student’s off-campus residence

University police are looking for a suspect who reportedly broke into a UCLA student’s off-campus residence Tuesday night. 

The incident occurred on the 600 block of Gayley Avenue at around 10:00 p.m., according to a UCPD crime alert sent Wednesday.

The suspect was seen inside a student’s residence carrying the backpack belonging to one of the residents, according to the alert. A resident was in the apartment at the time of the break-in. The suspect fled when confronted, leaving the backpack at the scene.

UCPD described the suspect as a 5-foot-10-inch Black male around 50 years old. He was reported as wearing a dark jacket, yellow shirt, black pants, black boots and orange handkerchief.

No injuries or vehicles related to the incident were reported.

The case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information can call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
