TEMPE— With their week one starting quarterback returned, the Bruins are on top after one half.

UCLA football (2-2) leads Arizona State (0-1) 17-3 at the end of one half at Sun Devil Stadium. The matchup is the Sun Devils’ first in four weeks.

Junior quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson returned to the field after missing the previous two weeks because of COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. He chipped in 128 passing yards along with 45 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.

His lone passing touchdown went to junior wide receiver Delon Hurt, who caught his first two passes of the season on the scoring drive, totaling 47 yards in the first half.

Redshirt senior running back Demetric Felton did not start the game despite being the main ball-carrier in the previous four contests. He pulled up near the end of the game against Arizona, but coach Chip Kelly said he was not injured as of Monday’s practice.

Starting in Felton’s place was graduate transfer running back Brittain Brown. Along with a 64-yard rushing play, Brown finished the half with 104 total yards on five touches.

Redshirt freshman kicker Nicholas Barr-Mira hit a 44-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter, the second time in two games he’s nailed a field goal after not having an attempt in his first three starts.

On the other end, the Bruin defense shutout the Sun Devil offense from the end zone. On one of Arizona State’s drives, UCLA got back-to-back sacks to force a field goal attempt. The Sun Devils were unable to convert, and the Bruins got the ball back.

Sun Devil quarterback Jayden Daniels was able to lead his offense to three points, and after putting up 111 rushing yards in his last game, he was held to one yard on the ground in the half.

UCLA will receive the ball to start the second half.
