Redshirt senior defensive lineman Steven Mason has been suspended indefinitely from UCLA football following his arrest Oct. 10.
Mason was arrested on suspicions of domestic violence and child endangerment, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office did not file felony charges after reviewing the investigation submitted by UCPD. The LA City Attorney’s Office has scheduled an informal resolution hearing at the Airport Courthouse, according to a UCPD statement.
UCPD responded to a report of domestic violence at 10:56 p.m. on Oct. 10, according to a police report provided to The Bruin by UCPD spokesperson Scott Scheffler. Following an investigation at the scene, Mason was then reportedly transported to and booked at UCPD before being transported to an LA County jail and held on $150,000 bail.
Coach Chip Kelly told the media Oct. 16 that Mason was in quarantine after he had come into contact with someone from outside of the UCLA Athletics community who had tested positive for COVID-19.
The redshirt senior was arrested less than a week prior to that press conference.
“UCLA Athletics is aware of the recent arrest of a football student-athlete,” a department spokesperson said in an emailed statement Wednesday. “The student-athlete has been suspended from the team indefinitely. We will have no further comment while the matter is under review.”
Mason has appeared in eight games for the Bruins since joining the team as a transfer in 2018. Mason was previously enrolled at Southwestern College.
