Daily Bruin wins Pinnacle Award for best four-year daily collegiate newspaper

The Daily Bruin was named the top daily four-year college newspaper by the College Media Association for the first time Friday.

The Daily Bruin won first place for CMA’s Pinnacle Awards in the four-year daily newspaper of the year category and first place in the best audio slideshow category for the 2019-2020 year. The Bruin also placed second in three categories, including best breaking news coverage and best sports investigative story, and third in two categories, including best sports columnist and best online sports section.

In total, The Bruin received an award in seven categories and received two honorable mentions.

The Pinnacle Awards honor the nation’s top collegiate media organizations annually. CMA’s criteria for the Pinnacle Awards include content coverage, design, accompanying art, service to the campus community, reporting, writing and editing.

Last year, the Daily Bruin won seven 2018-2019 Pinnacle Awards and honorable mentions, including first place for best newspaper sports page/spread and best social media presence.

  • Second Place, Best Breaking News Coverage
  • Second Place, Best Sports Investigative Story
  • Second Place, Best Sports News Photo
  • Third Place, Best Sports Columnist
  • Third Place, Best Online Sports Section
  • Honorable Mention, Best Newspaper Front Page
  • Honorable Mention, Best Multimedia Feature Story

The Bruin also won its seventh Pacemaker Award on Thursday for being one of the top national college newspapers.
