Gallery: Transfer Bruin Day

Jose Cano, an admitted third-year biology student, discovered his love for biology while attending community college in Rancho, California. Cano completed award-winning evolutionary ecology field work at the North Etiwanda Preserve. He is interested in attending UCLA because of its strong pre-med program.

Niloufar Nikfarjam, an admitted third-year neuroscience student, previously attended De Anza College in Cupertino. Her love for helping people has inspired her to pursue pre-med education at either UCLA or UC Berkeley in fall.

Gustavo Garay Ramirez, an admitted third-year geography student, previously attended Cerritos College, where he spent his time volunteering. Garay Ramirez volunteered for six years with the nonprofit Communities for a Better Environment. Through his work, he advocated for environmental justice by informing local citizens of ecological issues affecting their communities such as lead contamination. Garay Ramirez’s experience volunteering allowed him to discover an interest in geography, which he plans to study in fall at UCLA.

In fall, Firas Shanti, an admitted third-year student, will fulfill his lifelong dream of attending UCLA. Shanti is transferring from Fullerton College, where he spent much of his time working in the tutoring center.

Rhodri John and Troy Harding, admitted third-year students, were both on the Orange Coast College rowing team for two years. They plan to bring their passion for rowing to UCLA where they will compete for UCLA men’s rowing club. Both students credit their rowing success for helping them reach UCLA. ‘’Before we were rowing to get into school, but now we get to row for (school) spirit,’’ Harding said.

Richard Corredor, an admitted third-year political science student, attended Irvine Valley College and interned with Rep. Mimi Walters. While he may consider a career in politics later down the road, right now he wants to focus on finishing his undergraduate degree at his dream school, UCLA.

Tasha Hairston, an admitted third-year sociology student, is a published writer who writes about topics such as social justice, feminism, race and police brutality.

Ariana Chavez, an admitted third-year gender studies student, attended Loyola Marymount University and Santa Monica College before transferring to UCLA. Chavez is a first-generation college student and describes UCLA as her dream school. Outside of school, she competes for Beach City Roller Derby. She first became interested in roller derby after seeing it on YouTube and is now considering participating in or starting a roller derby club at UCLA.

Anjilee Butler, an admitted third-year linguistics student, is transferring to UCLA, where she hopes to work with BruinCorps and become involved with community gardening. Outside of academics, Butler loves creating art, specifically acrylic and found object art.

Jannah Jakvani, an admitted third-year history student, previously attended Mount Sac College after graduating high school at 16. Jakvani and her friend founded One Medium, an interfaith organization that works both locally and internationally to bring people with different faiths together through community service. Jakvani is now interested in bringing One Medium to UCLA.

Kaitlyn Hodge, an admitted third-year political science student, previously attended Orange Coast College. Outside of academics, Hodge is an advocate for reproductive rights. Hodge wants to study political science at UCLA in order to prepare herself for a career in public policy.
