
More than 30 people, many of whom are members of the Afrikan Student Union, gathered in front of Bruin Bear to plan chants for the upcoming Undergraduate Student Association Council meeting.

''Our neighborhood is predominantly a Crips neighborhood,'' said Martin Martinez Saldaña, a third-year political science and Chicana/o studies student, who went to the same high school as Siegel. ''He should have understood the dangers of such a symbol.''

The door to the council meeting was kept open to let students outside listen to the speakers.

Robert Gardner, a fourth-year political science and African American studies student, admonished the council for time restrictions on public comment.

Gardner's supporters chant for more public commenting time. They said the council's policies were silencing their voices.

Siegel was often forced to pause since commenters frequently broke into chants.

Council members not part of the Bruins United slate showed solidarity with public commenters during chants.
