Minseo Yoon found warmth in her black knee-high boots, which she paired with black shorts and a long grey coat. The fourth-year sociology student said she picked the ensemble randomly.

First-year theater student Hannah Reinartz displayed a Victorian pagoda-style umbrella. She was inspired to buy the umbrella after seeing it at the Universal Studios costume department, where she works, Reinartz said. In addition to the old-fashioned umbrella, Reinartz also sported a fuzzy jacket, which she received from her mother.

John Sanchez added splashes of purple throughout his outfit with his plaid shirt and knitted scarf. The fourth-year sociology student said his favorite part of the outfit was the scarf because his grandmother made it for him about four years ago.

Skylar Kang, a first-year undeclared student, brought style without compromising comfort in their “lazy-day” ensemble consisting of leather leggings and an oversized sweater that read “We are Eternal.”

Though the cold weather may discourage some students from experimenting with clothes, Shuying Li played with textures in her outfit.

The third-year political science student complemented her blue coat with frayed slit jeans, mesh socks and shiny, platform oxfords.

Contrasting clothing is necessary when it comes to fashion, said third-year philosophy student Glen Abalayan. Abalayan wore his favorite denim jacket along with black jeans to create a contrast against his white shirt, which completed his Americano look, he said.

Pablo Simental wears his 50-year-old leather jacket because it keeps him warm and looks good on him, he said. The fourth-year world arts and cultures student received the jacket from his abuelito and will travel to Milan to have it repaired when he studies abroad in Rome, he said.
