Members of Teamsters Local 2010 gathered in front of Murphy Hall on Jan. 9 as part of a five-day strike against the University of California.

Teamsters Local 2010 represents about 600 skilled trades workers at UCLA and 12,000 administrative and clerical workers across the UC system.

The contract between the UC and Teamsters-represented administrative and clerical workers expired in December.

Teamsters also gathered on the morning of Jan. 10 on campus for a bigger demonstration around Westwood later in the day.

UCLA and Teamsters have been bargaining on a contract for skilled trades workers since August.

Skilled trade workers wrapped up a five-day strike at UCLA on Tuesday, while clerical workers across the UC went on strike for 24 hours the same day.

Strikers marched on campus and throughout Westwood, venturing into the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard, temporarily disrupting traffic.

The UC said its clerical employees earn an annual average salary of $47,300 – nearly 20 percent more than the state average of $39,200 for clerical workers.

An October 2016 survey from Occidental College found 70 percent of Teamsters members at the UC are food-insecure.
