Defensively, UCLA was far sturdier than USC. Sophomore outside hitter Jake Arnitz totaled five of the Bruins' 38 digs.

Freshman setter/hitter Micah Ma'a got it done with his passing and his hitting in Saturday night's victory. He had nine kills to go along with his 25 set assists.

Much of UCLA's success came from sophomore outside hitter JT Hatch, who led the team with 13 kills and a career-high four aces.

USC (3-13, 3-11 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) had little to celebrate about besides a strong third set. The Trojans forced a fourth set on their home court.

With an .875 hitting percentage, setter Hagen Smith led the Bruins in kill efficiency. The junior converted seven kills on a total of eight attempts without errors.

Veteran leader Mitch Stahl also had an errorless night, finishing with eight total kills on 11 attempts. Defensively, he was tied for the team-lead with three block assists.

With the loss, USC dropped the season series to UCLA. Both matches went to four sets, but the Trojans were unable to pull off the victory either time.
