Samantha Stewart returns to her dorm room at the end of the day, picks out one of the four blankets laying on her bed, then proceeds to her desk. With her microphone plugged into her laptop, the third-year psychology student opens a recording software and throws the blanket over her head and computer screen to create a makeshift sound booth.

On Thursday, UCLA basket suffered a tough loss. The Bruins fought back for the final 20 minutes. After playing just seven minutes in the first half, sophomore forward Jonah Bolden was on the court for all but one minute of the second. He finished with 11 rebounds, two steals and a block in what Steve Alford called one of the best games the forward has played.

About 40 years ago, Hughlin Boyd cried on the front stoop of his family’s Brooklyn apartment because his dream of attending college seemed so out of reach. Boyd, a graduate student at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, has since earned three degrees, worked in politics for 10 years and been diagnosed with cancer. He is now working on a dissertation about American and international policies on accepting foreign refugees.

Jintak Han is a former senior staff photojournalist and news reporter who graduated in 2020. He served as an Assistant Photo editor from 2016 to 2017. Working at the Bruin through his entire undergraduate career since 2014, Han has won national recognition and numerous awards for his photojournalism. He is also known for his investigative reporting for the City & Crime beat. Han currently works as a freelance photojournalist and reporter for multiple news organizations.
