Rejected repeat
After playing the hero for the New Orleans Saints last week, former Bruin kicker Kai Forbath had another chance on Sunday.

With his team tied 28-28 against the Tennessee Titans with a minute to play, Forbath lined up for a 46-yarder. But the attempt went awry for New Orleans – a poor snap and hold led Forbath to kick the ball low and Tennessee’s cornerback Coty Sensabaugh tipped the ball, sending it scuttling off target.

The Titans were not able to make anything happen on the ensuing drive but rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota led them on a game-winning touchdown drive in overtime.

Missing time

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks, October’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month, sat out on Sunday with a rib injury.

Last year’s Butkus Award winner after leading UCLA in tackles, Kendricks has impressed thus far in the Minnesota team, which improved to 6-2 with an overtime victory on Sunday.

Teammate and linebacker Anthony Barr, another former Bruin, played in the Vikings’ 21-18 win over the St. Louis Rams, recording six tackles and a pass deflection.

Encouraging signs

UCLA men’s volleyball came away from its second fall tournament Saturday with another big win, taking down Hawai’i in three sets. The result was the Bruins’ only victory of the weekend, and their fourth this school year.

Last year, Hawai’i swept its season series against UCLA on the way to an NCAA play-in game in May. The Rainbow Warriors had one of the most successful seasons in their program history, but graduated a large senior class, entering 2016 with a younger group of players.

The Bruins will return to action in two weeks at the UCLA SAC Tournament at home.

Early exit

Sophomore tennis player Kristin Wiley pulled out of the past weekend’s Jack Kramer Classic in the first round with an undisclosed injury.
