A lit candle caused a fire in a room on the fifth floor of Rieber Hall, causing students to be evacuated from the dorm building late Tuesday evening, university police said.

UCPD received a call at 10:09 p.m. reporting the fire, Lt. Richard Davis said. The room was vacant at the time of the fire, and the flames were extinguished by sprinklers, he added.

Firefighters inspected the room for damages from the water and smoke, though no cost estimate of damages is available.
