A UCLA political research center will host a panel discussion Wednesday about the results of the recent midterm election and how they may affect Congress and the president over the next two years.

The panel will include Professor John Petrocik from the University of Missouri–Columbia, Professor Daron Shaw from the University of Texas at Austin, political science Professor Emeritus Barbara Sinclair and Joseph Doherty, director of the UCLA School of Law Empirical Research Group.

The event, hosted by the UCLA Center for American Politics and Public Policy, will take place in 2125 Rolfe Hall Wednesday at noon. It is free and open to the public.

The center regularly holds discussions panels when staff members think election results have a special interest to the public, said Joel Aberbach, a political science professor and director of the center. This election caused a Republican takeover of the Senate, leading to the two major parties having separate control of Congress and the presidency.

“The panelists are people who are … good scholars,” Aberbach said. “And several of them have had a lot of experiences consulting with various political groups.”
