UCLA to host candidate forum for 3rd District supervisorial seat

Candidates for the seat representing the 3rd District on the L.A. County Board of Supervisors will participate in a UCLA-hosted forum in Macgowan Hall Tuesday night.
The supervisor sits on a five-member board that governs L.A. County. The board oversees the county’s government, including the county’s jail system and sheriff’s department. Members of the board also sit on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors.
The 3rd district, which has been represented by Zev Yaroslavsky since 1994, includes Westwood and UCLA. Yaroslavsky is leaving the office this year because of term limits.
Sheila Kuehl and Bobby Shriver will be featured in the event. Kuehl is a former state senator and Shriver is a former mayor of Santa Monica.
Kuehl finished first in the primary election in June, winning 36 percent of votes compared to Shriver’s 29 percent.
In the forum, both candidates will discuss their stance on issues surrounding the district.
The event will be held in coordination with the Los Angeles Business Council and the Century City Chamber of Commerce.
