Couple charged in fatal hit-and-run of UCLA alum

A Los Angeles couple was charged Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a UCLA alumnus in December, officials said.
Marguerite Vuong, 66, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Her husband, Michael Vuong, also 66, was charged with accessory to hit-and run causing death, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Twenty-three-year-old UCLA alumnus and filmmaker David Pregerson died Dec. 31 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after he was struck by a car while walking on Chautauqua Boulevard in Pacific Palisades.
Marguerite Vuong allegedly drove the car that hit Pregerson, and officials claim her husband tried to help her avoid prosecution.
If convicted, Marguerite Vuong could face up to four years in state prison, and her husband could face up to three years in county jail, according to the release.
Michael Vuong was arrested in connection with the incident on May 1 and was released after posting bail two days later, according to Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records. Marguerite Vuong was arrested Wednesday and held on $50,000 bail, but was released after posting bail about 11 hours later.
The case is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. The couple will appear in court Friday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court Airport Courthouse.
