The mind is mightier than the sword when it comes to kendo. Kendo trainers emphasize self-control, intimidation and correct posture. “It’s more than just hitting your opponent, it’s more than just violence, it’s a mental game,” said Rachel Carrillo, UCLA Kendo Club president and fourth-year economics student, as she defines kendo in her own words after the team’s tournament on Sunday.
