A small group from the UCLA track and field team participated in this past weekend’s Triton Invitational in San Diego.

Several athletes attempted to reach higher marks in order to qualify for championship season.

Good performances this weekend included a personal best in the shot put from sophomore thrower Nicholas Scarvelis and a winning mark by redshirt senior Julian Wruck in the discus.

Scarvelis finished sixth overall and second in the collegiate competition with a mark of 63-6.75.

Wruck finished second overall and first in the collegiate competition with a mark of 207-11.

Some other strong performances came from sophomore pole vaulter Renee Greene, who finished fourth overall, and freshman Monique Van, who tied for fourth in the triple jump.

A quiet week from the team will be followed up with a bang as UCLA will host USC at Drake Stadium next weekend.
