A UCLA student was robbed at knifepoint Saturday in a university apartment parking garage on Mentone Avenue, about 5 miles south of campus, police said.

A man approached the student at about 2:40 p.m. as she was walking up the ramp in the parking garage of the Keystone-Mentone Apartments, near Venice Boulevard. He pulled out a switchblade and demanded that the student hand over her wallet, according to a university police statement released Monday.

The student gave the man her wallet and the man then ran away. No injuries were reported.

The man was described as Hispanic, 20 years old, 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds with a muscular build. He spoke in broken English with a Spanish accent and was wearing a solid red baseball cap with black stains, a dark navy blue T-shirt with a white star on the front and dark, loose pants, according to the police statement.

Police suggest that when confronted, students should comply with the robber’s request. Students should also try to note what the robber looks like and what the person is wearing.
