UCPD arrests man for stealing laptop

Feb. 26, 2014 6:35 p.m.

A 53-year-old man was arrested and charged with stealing a laptop and other outstanding warrants Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Patrick Farmer allegedly stole a laptop earlier this week in the Broad Art Center, said Nancy Greenstein, spokeswoman for university police.

A UCLA Information Technology employee captured the incident on a security camera and recognized Farmer from the videotape in the building again on Wednesday, Greenstein said.

After the UCLA employee asked Farmer to wait while he called the police, Farmer ran from the scene, Greenstein said. The employee caught up to him and the two men got into a physical “scuffle,” but there were no reported injuries, Greenstein said.

UCPD arrested Farmer at the scene and took him into custody.

Farmer has no known connection to UCLA, Greenstein said. No further information was immediately available.
