Red-flag warning issued for areas of Southern California

A red-flag warning was issued for areas of Southern California after record-high temperatures and strong winds were predicted early this week.

The red-flag warning, which means the weather is conducive to critical fire weather, began at 3 a.m. Monday morning and will run to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Areas including Los Angeles and Ventura counties are expected to face a combination of high winds – up to 60 mph – and record dry weather, according to the National Weather Service. The Santa Ana winds will be strongest Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal are expected, peaking in the 80s mid-week.
