Bruin Plate opens for select student staff members

Bruin Plate, the new residential dining hall in Sproul Presidio, opened Monday for select student building staff members on the Hill.
Bruin Plate, the first health-themed dining hall on the Hill, will seat up to 900 people and serve 1,500 people in a meal period when it fully opens later this fall. The Hill’s chefs began testing recipes for Bruin Plate last year at the Hedrick Test Kitchen, and used feedback from students’ online surveys to modify their menus.
Dining staff hosted 250 people at breakfast and 300 people for lunch and dinner, said Alison Hewitt, a spokeswoman for UCLA Dining Services, in an emailed statement. Today, floor government representatives from Sproul Cove, Sproul Landing and Sproul Hall will be among the 300 people allowed to go to Bruin Plate for dinner, Hewitt said.
Starting on Wednesday, all residents in Sproul Cove, Sproul Landing and Sproul Hall can attend Bruin Plate by presenting their BruinCard at the Office of Residential Life front desk and collecting a free meal ticket, Hewitt said. The new dining hall will host about 500 people on Wednesday and Thursday and 600 on Friday, she added.
Continuing into next week, dining hall staff will gradually increase the number of students they serve each day in Bruin Plate, Hewitt said. Dining Services will officially determine a full opening date based on how the soft opening goes, Hewitt added.
