Preliminary funding approved for new UCLA engineering building

The University of California Board of Regents approved $3.15 million in preliminary funding today for an engineering building at UCLA.
The building, called the Engineering VI – Phase 2 building, would be built adjacent to the Engineering VI – Phase 1 building already under construction in Westwood Plaza.
The six-level building will provide research laboratories and offices for approximately 35 faculty members, an incubation laboratory and a learning center for students in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The learning center would include a 250-seat classroom and teleconferencing capabilities.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $70 million, all expected to be financed from gift funds, but the regents were asked to approve just the preliminary funding of about $3 million.
About $27 million has been raised for the project so far, from donors, according to the regents agenda item.
