Juliet Williams, an associate professor in the gender studies department, was named as the new associate dean for teaching innovations, the dean of the Division of Social Sciences announced in an email Tuesday.

Williams will work with administrators within the social sciences division to help create new teaching strategies and develop a new masters program when she begins her new role on July 1, according to the email.

Meg Sullivan, UCLA spokeswoman, said professors who become deans normally maintain their role within their “home” department as well as his or her added responsibilities as deans. Sullivan said she was unsure if Williams plans to follow that pattern.

Williams declined to comment on her new position.
