Did you know that April 22 was designated as International Mother Earth Day by the United Nations in 2009? Sammi and Kevin talked to Chief Sustainability Officer Nurit Katz on recent developments in the environmental movement as well as what UCLA students can do in their daily lives to protect and help conserve the environment. It’s also the first day of UCLA’s campus wide tobacco-free initiative. Chair of UCLA’s Tobacco-Free Steering Committee Linda Sarna, who helped develop and institute this ban, discusses its purpose and what she hopes the ultimate effects of the initiative will be. With the counterculture holiday “420” last Saturday, Sammi and Kevin check in with Bridget Freisthler, the principal investigator on UCLA’s medical marijuana research team, on medical marijuana dispensaries and their effect on communities as well as cannabis legalization efforts throughout the nation.
