The UCLA School of Dentistry received a $5 million donation, the largest ever received from an individual or couple, to establish a clinical research and patient care center, according to a press release sent out this week.

The UCLA Mick and Mary Dragoo Periodontal and Implant Clinical Research and Patient Care Center will be used for clinical research, patient care and education about tooth replacement and a specific type of dentistry that involves the supporting tissue around teeth, called periodontology.

Mick Dragoo is a periodontist who has authored several books and clinical articles. This marks the Dragoos’ first donation to the School of Dentistry, according to the statement.

“We searched the country for the perfect place and director to execute our vision,” Mick Dragoo said in the statement. “Our search led us to the UCLA School of Dentistry.”

The new center will be headed by Perry Klokkevold, the acting chair and director of the residency program in the section of periodontics at the UCLA School of Dentistry.
