The UCLA basketball program announced today the dismissal of Anthony Stover, a rising redshirt junior center. He was deemed academically ineligible by NCAA standards.

“We had high expectations for him, and we were looking forward to getting increased contributions from him during this coming season,” coach Ben Howland said in a press release.

Stover is the second player in the past year to be dismissed from the team. UCLA parted ways with Reeves Nelson in December 2011.

Stover was expected to continue to contribute defensively off of the Bruins’ bench this year.

Although he only averaged 8.4 minutes per game, Stover appeared in 28 games and led the Bruins with 39 blocks in the 2011-2012 season.
