Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum suspended his campaign Tuesday morning, making Mitt Romney the likely nominee for the upcoming presidential election in November.

“While this presidential race is over for me and we will suspend our campaign today, we are not done fighting,” Santorum said in a speech delivered from Gettysburg, Pa., Tuesday afternoon.

Santorum also reiterated support for the Republican Party in his speech.

“This game is long, long, long way from over,” Santorum said in his speech. “We are going to continue to go out there and fight to make sure we defeat President Barack Obama, that we win the House back and that we take the United States Senate.”

Romney responded to Santorum’s announcement in a statement, according to the Associated Press.

“(Santorum) has proven himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation,” Romney said. “We both recognize that what is most important is putting the failures of the last three years behind us and setting America back on the path to prosperity.”
