UCLA students sound off on what they think of the recently announced UC-wide smoking ban to go into effect in 2014.

Paul Kim
Second-year, biology

“(I) object to (the smoking ban) because smoking is bad, but it is stress relief, like coffee. (A ban would) infringe on civil liberties. Putting trash bins near smoking areas is an option.”

Sam Lee
Fourth-year, electrical engineering

“Smoking areas in Disneyland and other places are fine, so it could probably work here, too.”

Kevin Ly
Fourth-year, statistics

“I don’t like smoking. It would become a dirty environment because of the littering (involved). Smoking in private is fine.”

Will Parsons
First-year, physiological science

“I agree with the ban. Smoking does not contribute to the environment, and it fends people off. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
