“I know I haven’t been as up-to-date on current events as I was back home. I live in the dorms, and I don’t have a TV, so I don’t get to watch the news. … (At home) I was around people that read the newspaper, like my parents and relatives.”
Elliot Fox
Third-year, psychology
“I feel like since I’ve become more educated (at UCLA), I’ve become more aware and active. Before, I didn’t know anything about climate change. Next quarter I am going to Washington, D.C. in order to research (the subject). It’s become a big deal to me.”
Nabeel Qureshi
Second-year, neuroscience
“Even if someone doesn’t know what’s really going on, there’s always chatter about it somewhere (on campus). … For the Israel-Palestinian issue, I knew about the issue but I didn’t know all the details. Even just walking by (the events for Palestine Awareness Week), I heard about it and learned something new.”
Nilufer Rustomji
Fourth-year, psychology
“I think it depends a lot on your major and area. In general, (the student population) is pretty well-rounded. … I’m a psychology major, yet I chose to do an anthropology minor because it brings me more into perspective.”
