Food Truck Junkie: It's worth making the trek to new trucks

By Joel Kato

Because of the shortened school week, and thus smaller variety of food trucks on campus, I unfortunately do not have any new food truck reviews. When contemplating what to write about, someone jokingly suggested re-reviewing another truck. While this was definitely not an option, it did get me thinking about the dilemma of whether to revisit familiar trucks or try new ones.

When the food truck schedule for each week is released, I immediately seek out familiar names. These can be trucks that I’ve already tried, ones that I’ve seen in the Court of Sciences frequently, or just trucks that I’ve heard about through my subscription to other food bloggers. The next step is researching the unfamiliar names on the list, seeing what they are marketing themselves as, and inevitably reading what other foodies have said about them. In the end, all of this information is simply stored in the back of my head.

As much as I’d like to say that I don’t have a preference between familiar and foreign food trucks, I do. For the most part, when choosing between the two, I will go for the foreign food truck. One of the main draws of a food truck is the chance to try something exciting and new. If I were to visit the same food trucks all the time, not only would that be just like visiting a stationary restaurant, but I would also be missing out on tons of potential new favorite trucks. I’m not saying that there aren’t days when I’ll go back to one of my favorite trucks to indulge in the memories of their best dish, but I try fairly hard to keep that to a minimum.

So if you’ve tried one of the trucks I’ve recommended and loved it, or discovered a personal favorite on your own, I sincerely hope that you continue to give other trucks a chance. It may not be the same truck that you know and love, but that’s the best thing, in my opinion, about food trucks.

Until we eat again,

The Food Truck Junkie
