UCLA men’s golf falls short in NCAA Tournament, ends season with 16th-place finish

Heading into Thursday’s final round of stroke play, the UCLA men’s golf team had an oppurtunity to vault into the top eight and qualify for the match play portion of the tournament.
The Bruins were three strokes out of eighth place, having posted a score of 840 (+4) after Wednesday’s second round. Play was suspended because of a weather delay, and not all teams were able to finish their rounds.
The Bruins didn’t find the answers they were looking for from the bottom of their lineup in Thursday’s final round, as they fired a 295 (+7) to finish with a 54-hole total of 875 (+11) in a tie for 16th place.
This is the second consecutive year that the Bruins have fallen short of making it to the weekend portion of the tournament. Last season, the Bruins finished in a tie for 23rd.
Sophomore Gregor Main, who was recently named to the All Pac-10 Second team, posted a top 10 finish by shooting 212 (-4). The next closest Bruin was freshman Pontus Widegren at 219, (+3) finishing in a tie for 58th.
Scott Langley of Illinois took home the individual trophy by finishing at 206 (-10).
The match-play portion of the tournament will continue today through Sunday.
