UCLA will soon host tennis regionals

The Los Angeles Tennis Center will be the site of the first two rounds of the 2010 NCAA Tennis Championships next week.
Both the UCLA men’s and women’s tennis teams earned top 10 seeds in the 64-team tournament.
About a week after the No. 7 women’s team (19-3) swept the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., the Bruins were announced as the seventh seed in the NCAA Tournament. They will open the Tournament May 14 when they face Army (20-9), who took home the Patriot League Championships for the sixth consecutive year on April 18. West Coast Champion St. Mary’s (17-6) will play against Arizona State (13-5) in the other first-round match that day at the LATC. The winners of Friday’s matchups will square off in the second round on May 15.
The No. 9 men’s team (14-6) had been selected as the No. 9 seed in the Tournament. The Bruins drew Big Sky champion Sacramento State (17-11) and will play the Hornets May 15 in the first round. The other first round matchup features No. 17 Cal and No. 60 UC Irvine. The second-round will take place on May 16.
This week’s selection marks the women’s program’s 29th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and the men’s 34th.
Winners of regional competition will advance to the NCAA round of 16, held in Athens, Ga.
The women’s team is 14-1 at home, having lost to No. 1 ranked and seeded Baylor, 4-3, on March 10. The home record for the men’s team is 10-3, with the Bruins losing to No. 5 USC, No. 7 Stanford, and No. 16 Baylor at the LATC throughout the season.
