Outside hitter Ryal Jagd, who sliced his neck below his ear in the fifth set of Wednesday night’s men’s volleyball match at Pepperdine, has been cleared by doctors as of 12:05 a.m., coach Al Scates said.

The redshirt sophomore was diving for a ball and fell into a press table. He was rushed to St. John’s Hospital after the match, but was cleared with eight stitches and no concussion, according to Scates.

Jagd will suit up for practice today. Scates said Jagd was “lucid” when they spoke on the phone at 12:35 a.m.

“It looked a lot worse than it turned out,” Scates said.
