Congressman’s lecture postponed

Originally scheduled for today, the 24th annual Bollen-Ries-Hoffenberg Lecture featuring Congressman Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., has been postponed to Feb. 17.

Waxman, who was scheduled to give the lecture titled “How Congress Is Helping to Meet the Challenges of Our Time,” could not speak as originally planned because of urgent personal business, he said in an e-mailed statement.

As the representative of California’s 30th congressional district, Waxman’s constituents include residents of Westwood as well as other areas of Los Angeles from Santa Monica, toward West Los Angeles, including some portions of the Santa Monica mountains.

The Bollen-Ries-Hoffenberg Lecture Series is sponsored by the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Affairs. Past speakers include journalist Malcolm Gladwell, State Librarian Emeritus Kevin Starr and former governors Jerry Brown and Gray Davis.
