A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck one mile northeast of Hawthorne at 3:49 p.m. today. The quake struck near the epicenter of Sunday’s magnitude 4.7 earthquake.

University police dispatch received no reports of injuries or concerns, said Nancy Greenstein, a university police spokeswoman.

In the event of aftershocks or further shaking, students should remain calm and duck under a desk or other sturdy area.
