On Monday, safety Bret Lockett and punter Aaron Perez became the latest Bruins to sign with an NFL team. Lockett agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Browns and Perez signed with the New England Patriots.

Last season, his only season as a starter, Lockett started the final 11 games and finished third on the team with 61 tackles.

Perez ranked sixth in the NCAA and first in the Pac-10 with a 45.20-yard punting average during the 2008 season. He served as the Bruins’ punter for the past four seasons.

Last week, three other Bruins signed professional deals following the 2009 NFL Draft.

Quarterback Patrick Cowan signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints, defensive tackle Brigham Harwell with the Washington Redskins and tailback Kahlil Bell with the Minnesota Vikings.

No UCLA players were selected during the 2009 draft, which took place April 25 and 26 in New York City. It was only the second time since 1970 that UCLA was completely shut out of the draft.
