Part of Charles E. Young Drive South was closed on Thursday due to a hazardous spill in the UCLA Cogeneration plant.

The road was closed between Westwood Boulevard and Charles E. Young West.

Nancy Greenstein, director of community services for the university police, said UCPD closed the road, but access was still made available for transportation to and from the UCLA Medical Center and emergency room.

The road was closed to traffic immediately after the spill, though the hazardous materials were contained, according to a UCPD notification. The street was closed to allow for the area to be cleaned.

UCLA community members were directed to use Gayley Avenue and Strathmore Avenue or Westwood Plaza to enter and exit campus, according to the notification.
