Election results for the 2009-2010 Graduate Students Association officer positions were released by the election board Thursday afternoon after being postponed due to the submission of a formal complaint.

Each of the four candidates that ran for a position won their respective positions.

Next year’s GSA officers will be Jamal Madni as president, Ryan Roberts as internal vice president, Miguel Lopez as external vice president and Netta Avineri as vice president academic affairs.

The Housing Advocacy & Progress for Students Amendment passed with a majority vote.

The amendment will allow representatives from Weyburn Terrace Residents’ Association and the University Apartments South Residents’ Association to vote in the GSA Forum.

According to the results, voter turnout increased to 13 percent from last year’s election.

“We’re happy with (the turnout) considering it was a completely uncontested election, but I know that there’s still a lot of work to be done to improve the voter turnout,” said Cynthia Pineda Scott, GSA director of elections.

Scott said she considers the election a success despite the complaint; she said complaints tend to be filed relatively frequently.
