The UCLA women’s rowing team opened its spring season in grand fashion by sweeping Loyola Marymount last weekend at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey.

The day began on a good note when the Bruins’ varsity four team ““ composed of sophomore Katrina Darracq (stroke), senior Sheerin Salimi (three), sophomore Brittanee Marksbury (two) and Lindsay Pollock (bow) and coxed by junior Lauren Bonnaud ““ edged LMU by nearly six seconds to take the first race of the day.

The varsity eight squad, stroked by junior Lauren Counter, won by more than 19 seconds to claim the Karen Hock-Hjelm Cup for the seventh-straight year.

UCLA’s second varsity eight was impressive, winning its race by almost 40 seconds.

The Bruins’ second varsity eight was only three-tenths of a second behind the varsity eight’s winning time of 6:09.5.

UCLA returns to Ballona Creek in Marina Del Rey on Saturday to face San Diego State.
