Swimmers earn personal bests in Atlanta competition

Despite a long three days of intense competition, two Bruin swimmers received personal best times this weekend at the Short Course National Championships in Atlanta.
Junior Anna Poteete swam lifetime best times in two events. The first was in the 50 freestyle in 22.70 seconds Thursday, which earned her an NCAA consideration time. Poteete finished 14th in the 100 freestyle Saturday but still posted another lifetime best of 49.37 seconds in the preliminary race.
On the second day of competition, sophomore Isabell Fischer stood out, swimming a personal best time of 54.87 seconds in the 100 backstroke, also an NCAA consideration time.
Of the nine swimmers who traveled to Atlanta, two more swam season-bests. Senior Chiemi Yamamoto swam the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 18.61 seconds, while finishing 28th overall in the event.
Freshman Emily Bibb placed 61st in the 100 freestyle, and achieved a season-best time of 51.24 seconds.
Former Bruin Kim Vandenberg also competed, winning the 200 butterfly in 1 minute, 53.18 seconds and placing 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.91 seconds.
