Hill serves as fun, safe site for trick-or-treaters

The Hill played host to 3,000 trick-or-treaters Wednesday night.
During the19th annual All-Hill Halloween, 3,000 costumed children were led across residence halls and plazas by volunteer guides. The children, aged 5 to 10 years old, came from economically disadvantaged areas around Los Angeles and received transportation paid for by proceeds from the candy sold by Office of Residential Life staff.
Justin Tang, a student leader in Rieber Terrace, said residents had been working hard to prepare for their guests.
“There’s an activities room in the ground floor and different floors are going to have different themes,” the fourth-year psychology student said.
Tang added that each floor picks a different theme to decorate their doors and hallways.
“One floor is doing “˜Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.’ … My floor is doing video and board games,” Tang said.
Tang said he thought the event was not only fun, but a unique opportunity to introduce children to the campus.
“I think it’s for a great cause, especially for kids who come from the inner city who are not able to trick-or-treat because of their … environment. It’s a
great way to expose them to a college environment and inspire them to go to college.”
