Offense wins the day under new coordinator

On Saturday, the Bruins played a conference game against the Stanford Cardinal in the first game of the season.

The game was the first for new Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh and marked the first time UCLA has played in the new Stanford Stadium.

After leading 14-7 at halftime, the Bruins dominated the second half and spoiled the Cardinal’s day with 45-17 win.

The Bruins amassed a total of 624 yards under new offensive coordinator Jay Norvell.

Quarterback Ben Olson revealed some of his potential, completing 16 of 29 passes for 286 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Running back Kahlil Bell had a career day, rushing for 195 yards on 19 carries.

On defense, the Bruins sacked Stanford quarterback T.C. Ostrander four times for a total loss of 48 yards.

The Bruins allowed a total of 383 yards: 331 through the air and 52 on the ground.
