Bruin traditions

Every year there are several events and traditions that bring the campus together ““ from the triannual Undie Run to the Beat ‘SC Bonfire during Blue and Gold Week.
Welcome Week
For the first week of school, student government organizes a full week’s worth of events, including a concert and a large student group recruitment fair, among other events. In 2005, Thrice performed at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Undie Run
At midnight on the Wednesday of every finals week, thousands of UCLA students gather under the tunnel on Strathmore Drive in their underwear to sprint through campus and take a late night dip in the Shapiro Fountain in front of Powell Library.
Blue and Gold Week
Every year at the end of fall quarter, in the days approaching the annual UCLA v. USC football game, the alumni association sponsors a week of festivities to foster campus spirit, including a parade, bonfire and car smash.
Los Angeles Times Festival of Books
The Festival of Books is an annual event that occurs on campus in spring quarter that brings hundreds of authors, publishers and bookstores to campus. Students and community members have the opportunity to buy books and, in some cases, go to author lectures and signings.
The Jazz Reggae Festival
The student government Cultural Affairs Commission organizes the Annual JazzReggae Festival, held on campus toward the end of spring quarter. Students and music enthusiasts from around Southern California come to campus to listen to top artists perform on the Intramural Field. This year, artist Joseph Israel was on the bill.
