After two straight losses to inferior teams, the Bruin basketball team received some potentially damaging news following practice on Tuesday.

Sophomore point guard Darren Collison, who missed the Bruins’ game against West Virginia earlier this season with an injured left shoulder, sustained a grade-one high left ankle sprain and is probable to play for UCLA’s first-round NCAA Tournament game against Weber State on Thursday.

A grade-one sprain is defined as slight stretching and some damage to the fibers (fibrils) of the ligament which, in Collison’s case, is in the high left ankle.

There has been no information to how Collison sustained the injury, but there will be more news about Collison’s injury Wednesday when the players are accessible to the media.

The Bruins practiced at UCLA on Tuesday afternoon, and flew up on a charter plane to Sacramento on Tuesday evening. If Collison does not start or play, freshman point guard Russell Westbrook would likely start in this spot.
