Editorial: California Democrats need to get it together

If California Democrats want to have anything to do with the
future of California, they really need to shape up. With a primary,
a platform and a campaign all gone horribly wrong, California has
confirmed Arnold Schwarzenegger as a fully legitimate governor.
It all started with a truly lackluster primary, in which neither
candidate was very impressive and the worse of the two was handed
the nomination.
From there, the Democratic leadership ran a campaign with a weak
foundation. As much as California hates President Bush, a race
can’t be won just by placing Schwarzenegger next to him.
A clear platform with strong Democratic values is what’s
going to get people voting, not finger-pointing and partisan
shenanigans.
In the future, the Democratic majority in California needs to
push its party to succeed, demand a candidate that can inspire the
state’s people, demand a platform that is meaningful and
effective, and demand a Democratic Party that has what it takes to
control California.
Because when this state’s donkeys want to bray about
Schwarzenegger’s policies over the next four years, they can
only be kicking themselves.
