Azerbaijan doesn’t deserve this anger
Since the end of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan has continued to
evolve and better itself, dedicating itself to many significant
issues.
During World War II, Azerbaijan was a haven for many Ashkenazi
Jews seeking to escape the Nazis. Today, Azerbaijan is a strong
ally of both America and Israel.
Although it is unfortunate, all nations make mistakes.
I can understand why the issue of Azerbaijan is a touchy one,
but what I don’t understand is how so much anger and hate can
be pointed towards Azerbaijan due to the Armenian diaspora, while
Armenian mistakes continue to be pushed to the side in Haig
Hovsepian’s letter (“Azerbaijan leaves much to be
desired,” Oct. 25).
Why has Azerbaijan become a scapegoat? Why is it necessary to
bash a small country that has committed more rights than
wrongs?
Why aren’t important issues like the Khojaly Massacre
mentioned, where hundreds of Azerbaijanis died?
I don’t mind those who have a problem with the Republic of
Azerbaijan, but I do have a problem when people leave out the whole
truth.

Pornography not discussed maturely
As romantic as Gerald Liles’ conception of sex seems in
his article (“Pornography robs sex of its power, viewers of
their human connections,” Oct. 24), I fail to understand the
value of his ideas.
I suppose there may be one redeeming quality of Liles’
column: We learned that Florida allows unnamed but quoted
psychologists to speak to its convicts before their
electrocutions.
